State Benefits Available to Refugees
Since benefits available to refugees often differ from one state to another, we are compiling a centralized state-by-state summary of and Internet links to programs providing assistance and financial support to refugees. We are starting with New York State, and we will continue with information about other states’ programs starting with those states receiving large numbers of Iraqi refugee newcomers. Most of these sites describe the type of benefit available and what is required to qualify. Application forms and instructions (some in Arabic as well) are also available online.
Organizations dedicated to helping Iraqi refugees.
The following organizations are some that IRAQIRAC supports and collaborates with. Please visit their sites to become familiar with their activities on behalf of Iraqi refugees, and please support their good work as well.
The List Project to Settle Iraqi Allies is a U.S. nonprofit, founded in 2007 to help our Iraqi allies who are imperiled and have fled or are in hiding due to their affiliation with and work with U.S. civilian and military employers. The Netroots part of their work is a broad support network of Iraqis and Americans that was set up to provide a way for Americans to contribute directly their efforts, friendship, and creativity to help in the difficult process of resettlement of our Iraqi allies in the U.S. IRAC works with The List Project and encourages you to visit its site and join us in these efforts.
The Enabling Peace in Iraq Center (EPIC) has worked since 1998 to improve human rights and humanitarian conditions in Iraq. It supports Iraqi efforts to advance peace and development, and also educates Americans and advocates with U.S. public officials and their constituents to find a better way forward for the Iraqi people.
