About Us

Who We Are

IRAQIRAC is a loose-knit group of U.S. citizens, including a large number of current and former U.S. military personnel, who are appalled and shamed by the way the U.S. administration has abandoned Iraqis who have worked on behalf of our military and government. We are a completely volunteer organization that was formed specifically to help Iraqi translators/interpreters and their families, but also others who have risked life and limb to help our troops, diplomats, and humanitarian workers in Iraq.

Because the U.S. government has virtually abandoned them, we have decided to help them ourselves to seek safe haven in the United States and other countries and, once they arrive, to help them acclimate to their new lives away from their homeland and extended families. We work to bring them to safe haven, decent jobs, and welcoming communities.

The group was founded by Rosemary Nuri of Massachusetts and Maura Stephens of New York State, but we are an egalitarian organization in which everyone may participate equally and share leadership roles. Our fiscal home is with CRESP Center for Transformative Action at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
